Biographical Sketch:
Kathie L. Wilson CPA, CVA holds a Masters in Taxation from Bentley College and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (with an accounting concentration) from the University of Washington. She has maintained her Certified Valuation Analyst credential since 1998. She is a contributing author to BVR’s Guide to Healthcare Valuation which was recently published. Here is an extract of her chapter:
“It follows that the community’s interest in the physician practice is correctly determined at the date of separation as earnings and accumulations after the date of separation are separate property. This is not to say that all physician practices are greatly impacted by the efforts of the individual doctor. A large group practice or one with significant ancillary income, nonphysician providers, large capital investment and/or a compensation system less determined by individual productivity could arguably be correctly valued near the time of trial as an individual physician’s efforts may not have a great impact on the practice value.”
Kathie specializes in medical practice accounting and valuation. Formerly with Dietrich & Wilson, PC where she was the partner responsible for quality control of the firm’s valuation, tax and accounting work, she returned to the west coast and spent two years with Gursey |Schneider LLP in Los Angeles, practicing in the family law litigation department specializing in medical practice valuation and forensic accounting. Kathie now maintains a consulting practice, assisting accountants and attorneys in the areas of medical practice accounting and valuation and family law litigation.
